Ava DuVernay was born on August 24, 1972, in Long Beach California. DuVernay started to discover her artistic and creative side as a child due to her aunt Denise. DuVernay was in college when she started to get interested in production for broadcast journalism. Her first job was as an intern with CBS News, during the O.J. Simpson trial. DuVernay was tasked to watch and search the home of an individual member of the Jury. After being disappointed in journalism due to the work she was given and deciding to go after a career in publicity. DuVernay was immediately hired from college to be a junior publicist at a small studio. Her own Public Relations company, The DuVernay Agency was founded in 1999.
